For many restaurant owners, digital marketing can be scary. They know the stats behind online search but aren’t quite sure where to start.
A great first step is to set up a Google My Business page, which many restaurant owners have claimed – though many of their listings fail to include a link to its menu or list out its menu items.
Above: Example of a restaurant’s Google My Business page optimized to include a menu link.
Having a link to your menu and listing menu items in your Google My Business page gives you another opportunity to attract customers and drive foot traffic to your restaurant. It is displayed at the top of results in a rich-snippet panel, is voice-search optimized, and can be found via searches on Google Maps.
The best part is that it takes less than ten minutes to add a menu to your Google My Business page. Here is how to do:
How to Add a Menu on Your Google My Business Page
If you are new to Google My Business, you’ll need to create and claim your account. Once you have access to your page, you’re ready to get started.
Step 1 – Go to the Google My Business website and login to your restaurant’s account.
Step 2 – On the left-hand side of the page, you’ll see an ‘Info’ and a ‘Menu’ tab. For now, click on the ‘Info’ tab which will open a panel of editable fields.
Step 3 – You’ll notice a ‘Menu URL’ field, which is where you can link your restaurant’s menu on your website. I highly recommend adding in this URL as it serves as a great inbound marketing tactic to drive new customers to your business.
Step 4 – Next we’ll add in specific menu items in your Google My Business page. You can access it two different ways – either by clicking on the ‘Menu’ button in the same panel you added your menu URL, or by clicking on the ‘Menu’ tab on the left-side of the page.
Step 5 – Once you’re in the ‘Menu’ section, you’ll see options to “Add menu sections” where you can categorize your menu items such as appetizers, combos, dinner, favorites, etc. Add in as many sections as you want.
Step 6 – Once you have the sections of your menu compete, you can add in individual items to your menu. Google My Business allows you to add in item names, descriptions, and photos to attract hungry customers.
That’s it! You’ve added your menu and specific menu items to your Google My Business page.
